Fashion While Black

I was chosen to showcase three of my designs during the opening of Minnesota Fashion Week, hosted by The Scout Guide Minneapolis and the W Hotel. I was beyond excited and happy to be recognized by some of the fashion elites in Minneapolis. This was also my very first fashion show. I was nervous yet excited.

A day before the big event, Kerry Ciardelli, the Editor for The Scout Guide Minneapolis was kind enough to invite myself and the rest of the designers to a small get-together at one of the W Hotel’s executive suites. I arrived at the lobby dressed to the nines.  I walked straight to the front desk, but before I could even get a word out, the receptionist beat me to it. She said, “Oh, if you’re here for the parking job, the interview was yesterday.”

As you can imagine, I was beyond confused. I also had no clue people went to job interviews wearing six-inch heels. I was in such a state of shock that I could only get out the words “I’m here to see Kerry.” The receptionist quickly gave me my VIP badge and directed me to the elevators. I felt so defeated at that point. My excitement had dimmed.
